Samos is the birthplace of the Greek Goddess Hera. We will be docked in the
port town of Pythgorio which sits along the shore at the end of a long horseshoe
bay. Pastel houses and weathered red tile roofs tier down the hillside to a long
and deep waterfront promenade full of shops, cafes and tavernas. Just behind the
waterfront is a rise of cobble stoned streets which lead to the Eupalinous
Tunnel, the Monastery of the Virgin Mary of Spiliani and the Ancient Theater at
the top of the hill.
