Kalkan was an old Greek
village called Kalamiki. It has become a place preferred by many people
now, with its clean boarding houses, and restaurants of fresh appetizers
and fish. You can go to places of ruins in the whereabouts such as Patara,
Letoon and Xanthos from here, see them and return by sailboats during the
same day. Entering the harbor you know you are going to like it here. A small fishing village that had been destroyed in the 1950's by an earthquake. The government decided not to rebuild it, but some private investors could not let this picturesque spot remain abandoned. A few hotels and according to all reports 127 restaurants are scattered along the San Francisco-like vertical streets. Restaurants and carpet shops made of white stucco and wood, one right next to the other, going up the hillside. Walk around the town and explore. At the top of the village is the "Terrace" bar that has a fabulous view of the entire harbor. There are also a few very tiny discos - 'mini' discos - where you can dance have some fun. The harbor may be a bit noisy until the harbor restaurants and clubs turn their music off. This is where you can ask
the captain to arrange a mini-bus excursion to Patara,
Xanthos, Letoon,
Saklikent and Kadikoy. This a a very full day - you can even split it into
2 days by seeing Patara & spending the day at Patara Beach. But either
way - it is something you must do. |
